A 1 foot fern. It goes dormant in summer without water. It has dark green fronds, the underside coated with a yellowish powder. In the nursery it is native to shady, rocky areas. Native to cismontane California. Give partial shade, good drainage. It is drought tolerant . Be careful about how much water you give it. It is deer proof and cold tolerant to at least -4 degrees F. I've seen it in some poor soils doing just fine. Will grow in the shade of Poison Oak (Toxicodendron diversilobum) with Violets (Viola pedunculata) as companions. Grows fine in clay soil.
Syn. Pentagramma triangularis ssp. triangularis
