Opuntia basilaris, Beavertail Cactus fruits are rather dry. - grid24_24
A small well behaved cactus that grows in the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. Native from Ridgecrest area to Utah and S. to Mexico. Give sun and little or no water. Very difficult in clay soils, acid soils, shade or areas of Conifer forests. Best in very fast draining soils and full sun.

Opuntia basilaris tolerates sand.

Foliage of Opuntia basilaris is evergreen.
Flower of Opuntia basilaris has color violet.
Fruit of Opuntia basilaris is edible.
