Description
A water-loving perennial that is flat with tubular 1"yellow flowers. A ground cover for small, moist situations, creek side situations. Grows in mountains of north-central California north and into the Rockies. It is not drought tolerant. You will find it along streams or below snow fields at higher elevations. It has survived here as long as it doesn't go dry. Customers zero in on the flat green color in the gallon cans. Plants cannot get lower than this and have chlorophyll. (It sounds like an insult but it's a compliment.) The form we have appears to be a hybrid with M. guttatus, the Seep-spring Monkey Flower. (It 'keys' out to M.guttatus in Munz and M. tilingii in Hitchcock, but the foliage looks like M. primuloides? We think it is an interspecific hybrid. We are listing it as primuloides because of its creeping habit and yellow flowers.) Click here for more about Monkeys in
