Identification
Genus: Mimulus
Species: cardinalis
Variety: None
Cultivar: None
Common name:
Scarlet Monkey Flower.
DescriptionA perennial to 3'. It likes sun to full shade and regular water. It has 2" red tubular flowers most of the year. An aggressive seeder that should be used in revegetation or large gardens, (or for those people that kill every thing else). It's serpentine tolerant and an important Hummingbird flower. The flowers are very showy and liked by most. I've seen it in the bottom of creeks with water flowing around it and it has survived in regular gardens well with 1/week water. It is native in the mountains surrounding the deserts. The British cultivate it and say it needs a sheltered location! It loves the nursery! (It's like a relative with too big of a family.)
