Description

A deciduous tree to 50 ft. Native in scattered spots throughout California. A fast tree with edible nuts, garden tolerant. There has been some controversy as to whether these trees were planted by CA. Indians around their encampments. I have always found trees planted in areas where Indians were known to be, usually within a half-mile. The nursery is within a mile of one of these old encampments. This is the rootstock for all the older walnut orchards. The nuts are of good quality but hard to crack. The walnuts are one of the strongest allelopathic plants and are difficult to garden under.[RIP in assoc. with CHAP,FOOT]
