Golden-Yarrow, is a dryland perennial, 1-2 ft. high, with bright yellow flowers in early summer. It does best with full sun and well draining. But can also often be seen in dry clay soil in part shade in Blue Oak woodlands. Golden Yarrow will grow in sand or heavier soil if it's not too wet. It is extremely versatile. Eriophyllum confertiflorum is excellent with Penstemons, and cold tolerant to 5 F., or less. Golden-Yarrow is typically native on sunny slopes in coastal sage scrub, growing with Salvia leucophylla, Diplacus aurantiacus, Artemisia californica, and Lotus scoparius. In the chaparral it is often growing with Pentemon centranthifolius or heterophyllus, Trichostema lanatum, and Yucca whipllei. It is often scattered throughout the hillside, in sunny openings between taller plants. Great small butterfly plant. Looks great mixed with Penstemon Margarita BOP.
