Description

Woolly Yerba Santa is a four to five foot tall perennial with gray fuzzy leaves and white flowers. It can be found in the central coast ranges in slightly disturbed areas. Many butterflies use it as a nectar source. Woolly Yerba Santa is also used by insect larvae as well as mature plant- eating insects.
Eriodictyon tomentosum is an excellent place to find lace wing bugs, small but exquisite little insects, and interesting beetles. Woolly Yerba Santa grows in full sun with little or no water. It is fairly easy to grow. It can become leggy in maturity. This can be prevented by chopping woody branches to the ground, this causes new, healthier looking branches to emerge. Woolly Yerba Santa tolerates full sun, and deer. Woolly Yerba Santa is a great mini-wildlife plant for the wild garden. But it needs room, as it suckers and can cover a hillside in time.
