Fireweed is a 2-3' perennial covered with 1" pink flowers. The name Fireweed originated as it's a pioneer plant that starts up the plant community after a fire Excellent to enhance a woodland or riparian site, but does excellent anywhere there is adequate moisture and no mulch. No mulch for this one. Fireweed is more of an English garden perennial. Grows to the seashore in Northern California and up to about 9000 feet. Fireweed's main limitation is moisture as it will grow in fairly deep shade to full sun, in most soils. Just water every few days and it's easy. A great plant for those of you that need your lawn but feel guilty, this one along with Erigeron 'Wayne Roderick', Yerba Buena, Yellow Eyed Grass, Hedge Nettle, and maybe Leopard lilly gets planted along the edges of the lawn.
