Dendromecon rigida, Bush Poppy
Description
An evergreen shrub normally 6 feet tall. It has yellow flowers, 2 inches across in March - June, grey-green leaves. Native to calif. coast ranges. Likes sun, fast-draining soil, better in clay soil if given no water after est.. If happy in location will grow to 6 feet in two years. Will tolerate almost garden conditions if given perfect drainage. Use where a tough flowering shrub is needed. Tougher than Dendromecon Harfordii in almost all respects and gives a good-excellent show in the spring. It had no cold damage at 5 deg. Froze to the ground at 0, but recovered rapidly. Do not fertilize either of these.
