Description
Monterey Cypress is an evergreen tree to 50', can be clipped as a hedge, and best within sight of the coast (west or east). C. macrocarpa is native to the point at the south end of Monterey Bay, is susceptible to canker when grown out of its element, and is valued best as a coastal windbreak. This tree has survived ok in the interior in sandy soil with little or no water. This rare plant, with green foliage, and gray bark can provide a protective habitat for the monarch butterfly.
