Pipestem Clematis is a deciduous, dioecious vine, that grows to 8-20' and has showy, creamy white flowers from March-August. Chaparral clematis is native in the coast ranges and Sierra Nevada mountains. Fruits are plume-like. Plant is not as vigorous as Clematis ligusticifolia. I've seen this in three places so far; 1) southern Sierra Nevada foothills. It was growing next to a stream with Quercus chrysolepis, Ribes nevadense, and Sambucus caerulea growing around it. 2) the central coast ranges growing with Lithocarpus densiflorus, Quercus chrysolepis and Arbutus menziesii. 3) In our neighborhood growing with Platanus racemosa, Quercus agrifolia, and Pinus sabiniana. 4.) In a very coastal area under Cornus stolonifera, Platanus racemosa, Equisetum sp., and Lonicera hispidula. Give sun to part shade, regular water and garden conditions.

Clematis lasiantha tolerates sand, clay and seasonal flooding.

Foliage of Clematis lasiantha has color lt-green and is deciduous.
Flower of Clematis lasiantha has color white.
