Identification
Genus: Ceanothus
Species: None
Variety: None
Cultivar: L.T. Blue
Common names:
White Bark Mountain Lilac and Drought resistant Lilac.
DescriptionL.T.Blue is eight foot tall and four foot wide. This mountain lilac gets most of its characteristics from Ceanothus leucodermis, white bark , medium blue flower, glossy rounded leaves, is cold tolerant to 10 deg. f. or less, is extremely drought tolerant and smells good. The Ceanothus thyrsiflorus contributes uniformity and garden tolerance. Ceanothus L.T. Blue likes good drainage and full sun, and a drought resistant garden setting or a native setting. Do not plant this mountain lilac into an English garden and expect long live, abuse it with drought gravelly soil and heat and it will live for decades. The myth of Ceanothus being short lived is primarily spread by gardeners that insist on drip irrigation, a summer water program, fertilizing and soil amending. Native plants hate all that stuff. Expect a 25-35 year life in most drought resistant gardens. L.T. Blue stands for leucodermis X thyrsiflorus, and the flowers blue. Click here for more about Mountain Lilacs. |
