Description
A clumping, almost stemless plant that usually grows in colonies, new plants being produced by basal lateral shoots, and the individual plants are several feet wide. The leaves, arising from a woody base are 18 inches long, 3 inches wide and spine tipped, It should have good drainage and little water. The flowering stem rises to 15 feet, producing yellow flowers from late spring to early summer. Although it's native to the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts and Baja, not damaged at 15 degrees F. In areas of no summer rain, give the plant a hose down once a month. Our mother plants died of drought the year we had 4 inches of rainfall. Agave deserti was utilized for food by the Cahuilla people.
