I love your website and I am certain I'll love your nursery as soon as I
can get down there to visit.  I live in Orange County so I'll go to the
Escondido nursery.   I recently decided to turn one of my four community
garden plots into a natives garden, which is why I found your website.  I
want to grow some plants from seed, but I might as well pick up some
started plants when I'm down visiting your nursery.  u b way cool.

A suggestion:  Limit the size of your pages to 800 pixels wide, so that the
text and photos don't flow off the screen - as they do on the page showing
directions to Escondido, for example.

Cant figure out how to get there; can't read the directions page because
the text flows off the screen!

(Just kidding, I can puzzle it out I'm sure - but you might selectively
limit some of the less "image-critical" pages to accommodate those of us
who stick with older technology - believe me, there are many of us out here
in the cybergarden.)

p.s. On some pages the text is not visible to us techno-backwards folks.
It's covered up by the photo.  Hi-res photos are good, but accommodating us

told her how to reset her screen size to 800X600 or 1078X768 from 640X480

and got this

OK I get it.  Thanks.  Your pictures are great, and your site is full of
good info, and yes I will indeed go down to Escondido and I'll surely buy
more than I've planned.  LOL  Maybe one of these days I'll make it up
north, even.

Hi las pilitas ! ! !  was rummaging around looking for  clue on "how to" put up a retaining wall using concrete (broken)....a project I've  been gathering material for for several years( the guys just look at me like "dah") and you've given me the answer..with pictures.........sooo thanks a bunch.....and the rest of your site is utterly amazing. . . .masses of good info, easy to access and funnnnnn......was planning a trip to Cambria but my destination has just been altered.....hope to visit soon......again many thanks..

1. okay, i love your site.  it's fun, it's inspiring, muy informativo, and best of all it seems like you have many of the california natives i want!  oregon oak, western azalea, western dogwood, western redbud, manzanita (the kind that looks like a mini arbutus, with little pink bell flowers), snowberry, serviceberry, salvias, ceanothi, etc.  can you tell i live in the siskiyou-klamath area?  anyway.  i'm cruising through all your plant lists, but i can't find the prices.  (i did find a form i guess you print out, write on and mail or fax).  couldn't you make it simpler with the little shopping cart thingie?  i promise not to whine about the shipping costs.

2. well thanks.  i can understand the expense thing.  and i really do appreciate that you have these plants that i can't seem to find anywhere else.   maybe with the shipping fees, you'll get a thou out of me when i sit down to order. ....  i am scoping for next year's planting (this year is the hardscape).  could i "preorder" for next spring, and maybe even come down to pick them up myself?  i'm talking several dozen total plants, mixed trees and shrubs....

3. got it.  but my dog is gonna hate staying home. thanks & best to all.

1. it's the math
shopping cart's are about $1000 per year, we really only offer mailorder
because no one else does,
and it only generates about $1000 per year (that was in 1993)
order form is at
www.laspilitas.com/order.htm
pricelist is at
http://www.laspilitas.com/nurseries/mailprice.htm
It is being updated as I type.
maybe we'll get the cart next year, if we figure out a real inexpensive (cheap(like free)) way to do it. (we did)

the joys of the native plant business

2. email a list a week or so before you come down, we'll correct it then.
a van can hold 300 or so, small pickup 200 or so, suv 100-300, Honda
Accord 80, 100 if you leave the dog home. (she mail ordered)

I stumbled across your web site while looking for 'pipe vine' and have
spent far too long with one topic or another. Thank you for all of the
good information. I will probably return to place an order after
reevaluating deer, slope, drainage, exposure, etc.

Howdy!  We are building our dream home in Escondido and wanted to check out the native flora.  I found your site through Google, and have spent the last few hours being thoroughly educated and entertained.  Your site is GREAT, especially leaving the bells and whistles to the train!  Anyway, thanks for all the work that I know goes into a site like this.  We'll come visit in person soon, since you're just up the street from us.

Hi, Your website is wonderful!  Found it via an article in a magazine about
Camassia.  Looking for more info online about this plant lead me to your
website.  I'm so glad I found it because...I'm a landscape designer, recently
relocated to Shell Beach from Manhattan Beach (So.CA), and you're practically in my
backyard.  Alas, you have no Camassia in inventory now.  I would like to buy
about 6 1gal. plants (or even just one) when they're available.
One tiny constructive-criticism about your website....I don't like how you
must scroll side to side to read.  Also when I printed your directions (which
were wonderful, even the pull-over part), it did not print the right side of the
page.  so I had to scroll back and forth to read and write in the missed
words on my print out.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to a visit soon.

{we found that we had to put all the problem pages into locked tables, what a pain.}

I  just wanted to drop you a line and first thank you for your excellent and informative web site. I also wanted to let you know that as of Monday morning June 16th, all of the links on your updated home page are not active.

oops, the chimps need to be put back on the keyboard

Please list plants by the common names along with your latin names.  I am an senior person and only

know my plants by their common names.. Otherwise your link is very interesting.  I am trying to

attract butterflies to my garden also my neighbor is doing the same.

Saw mention of your name in Sunset magazine! Have been thinking of you and wondering if you think it's a good idea to buy land near

Julian, with the fires the past 2 years.

yes

Do you have a phone number where I may talk to a customer service person?

Thanks so much,

we only have two real people here and a few others running in and out, 8054385992.

(She was a problem one that wanted three foot high plants, in flower shipped to the East coast cheaply, that week. AND she wanted spring flowering perennial stuff in fall, AND, she got mad when the Ceanothus were not in flower in October. I wished I'd let Harry Potter answer the phone, bark!)

I was just doing a web image search and got directed to your web page. It's

beautiful! You've done a great job - congratulations!

I am living in Flagstaff Arizona and wrote a book on native plants for

high-elevation western gardens. (It is based primarily on the

Colorado-Plateau but has many native California high-elevation species also

native here -- and other CP species that could be garden plants in

California.) If you'd like to see what it looks like, go to

Best wishes, and I hope the fires are staying away from you!

I think it would be helpful if you put your 1000-plant list indicator right on the top of your home page. I always have to search for it, and it’s the main reason I go to your site. Otherwise, your site is perfect. Your company is fabulous. Valerie, Morgan, Clay. Everyone’s wonderful. Thanks

Thank you for a GREAT website. Informative, imaginative and hilarious! Sent you my first order today. More to follow.

Hi! I found your website by accident, but I love it! So full of info

and exactly what I have been looking for (just wasn't looking in the

right places). anyway, your page is "spilling over " and not

adjusting to the size of the screen, also some of the graphics are

tiling over the text....makes it a bit distracting and some info is

just plain lost...

GOSH! your site is so expansive....let me check my history and forward you

the links....I only viewed 19 of the pages, but these were the ones I had

trouble with.

could I trouble you for which pages?

we have a great deal of trouble finding them...

fixed them
