The
grassy patch I have is mainly sun....will Yarrow do OK with full
sun? or does it need more shade? |
needs
about the same water as the lawn in full long beach sun,
once/twice a week is fine but it is a GREAT butterfly/insect
plant that doesn't need to be mowed |

To
whoever gets stuck reading these e-mails, My sister has a home
in La Mesa that I'm trying to help out with on issues of
maintenance and up keep. I've about got her talked into
replacing much of the "old landscape" of
worn-out exotics with themes that involve restoring what could
have been there some two-hundered years ago. The first
really difficult problem is that she has a backyard filled with
bermuda grass that has pretty much choked everything. Based on
your guys' experiences, what's the best way to get rid of the
damn stuff? You've mentioned on your website something about
keeping the grass growing while spraying it with round-up is a
good technique. Can you provide some more details on that
method? |
spray,
every few weeks through summer, until dead
when the
soils warms, water the lawn, wait a week and spray |

I have
a existing lawn which will be planted with CA natives It has
full sun and sandy soil What is the best way to remove lawn
? Spray it , leave dead lawn and plant into it ? Spray it ,
sod cut it out , and plant into it ? or ? |
kill,
kill, kill now the FBI is tracking this email use the sod
cutter only if it's an old lawn and is high against the sidewalk
and there is no room to apply mulch. If bermuda is present, do
not underestimate your problem, it is really hard to kill. |

Ok.

Hi, I
live a short distance from your Escondido location, Vista Way and
Gopher Canyon Road. What is the best low water use turf grass for
a small lawn area?
Thanks for your help. |
try to
stretch the watering out, longer for each watering, longer period
between, initially you have to water a lot, but the goal is once a
week watering |

Hi
guys: I am looking for a dryland seed mix as a lawn substitute.
I live in Central Oregon and want low growing, drought tolerant
grasses, herbs and other ground cover perrenials that will thrive
in zone 5 or colder, sandy, nutrient poor soil. Do you have
anything, or can you suggest a source in this NW Region? |
sorry,
I'm not a big fan of 'native' lawns The best of them look like
a weedy lawn |
