Description
Wavyleaf Dune Mint is native to the coastal dunes of southern San Luis Obispo county and northern Santa Barbara county. It can often be found on the unstabilized dunes. It is fragrant and one of the most attractive Monardella species. This Monardella is called Crisp Dune Mint not because it is crispy but because of the wavy and twisted surfaces and edges of its leaves. It has very interesting leathery leaves with wavy "crisp"edges. The flowers are a stunning pinky-purple. Although it is rhizomatous you'll not have trouble with aggressiveness. Monardella plants are one of the best plants to grow because they attract a variety of adult butterflies. The butterflies love to sip the nectar within the Monardella flowers. Crisp Dune Mint likes full sun, sand, and can tolerate deer.
