Description
Mountain Spirea is a little deciduous sub-shrub with reddish pink flowers in clusters two-three across. Flowers late summer when nothing else is even green but the vacationers show up for the last trip in August.. . Native from 2000 feet to 11,000 feet, from the central Sierra Nevada to B.C.. It should do well on the East Coast or in Europe. It grows under Ponderosa pine, Kellogg Oak and Black Cottonwood on a north-east slopes. We've had this species in before from other sites and it was not stable here. This form is stable here and should do well where you can grow apples or maybe even colder.
We got ours to flower, I'd expect Mountain Spirea to be much nicer as you go north or higher in elevations. Tahoe comes to mind.
