Description

A flat little evergreen perennial that is actually a shrub. It's not very woody. 'Woody plants that seem to be molded over rocks, forming dense mats' (DeDecker,1988) The flowers are on a spike a few inches tall towering over these flat plants. The flowers are creamy white against the grey foliage. You'll find these plants in the wild on limestone cliffs and outcrops in the south-western part of the Great Basin. In our location it is doing just fine with regular water and full sun in our containers and under dry conditions in the ground. Under both conditions it is flowering here. It might be a candidate for bonsai, rock garden or in containers. The only problems we've had is with leaf litter or mulch. Use only rock mulch or organic mulch combined with boulders. If the plants are near a tree leaf litter will bury and kill the plants.
