Description

(Penstemon rostriflorus,Penstemon bridgesii, penstemon bridgesii amplexicaulis.), Bridges Penstemon is a 1-2' perennial with 2-3' spikes of 2 inch red flowers in summer. It likes moderate to high elevations, excellent drainage, and some summer water. It's very showy in right spot, and should do well in Central and Eastern U.S.. This is the one you saw on the way over Tuolumne Pass, or Tahoe or even Colorado. It can grow to 10000 ft. and just out of the desert margins. If you've had trouble with late frosts, your rainfall is between 15 and 35 inches and the summer temperatures are cool this plant is for you! Put it in a rock border or perennial garden and adore it. Bare ground around your mountain condo or cabin, come on, plant so life!
