Description

(Monardella australis)Southern Monardella grows in the San Gabriel and San Jacinto Mountains. In its range you can find it growing in openings between the conifers. A GREAT butterfly plant. A good little perennial for the small rock garden or miniature butterfly garden. This mint has shiny green-gray foliage that stays low. Mature plant may reach a foot or so, flowers maybe another foot. Plant three of them in part shade, afternoon shade where you get above 90F, and plant a nice sized rock between them, ta, da, rock garden. They also work well in an east facing or part shade rock wall. Smells good too!
