Description

Lilium kelleyanum is a wonderful lily from the Sierra Nevada mountains. Native along streams and moist areas in part-shade. In their habitat they are 4-6 tal; out of their habitat they make a delicate plant 2 ft. tall. There are plenty of 2 inch flowers making orange/purple fire works going off in the first weeks of June. If you're creating a water rock' or other small water feature these plants have a lot of merit. If you have a narrow planter that gets regular water and morning sun, mix this lily with Alum Root (Heuchera spp.), California Fuchsia (Zauschneria septentrionalis) and Yerba Buena (Satureja douglasii). For the budding botanists, look at the stamens in the picture, they shrink to a quarter of their size at flowering. The only reliable key for this lily is the fragrance.
