Description
A perennial monkey flower from Topanga. Topanga monkey grows on slopes under Quercus agrifolia on north slopes, mixed with Salvia leucophylla, Salvia apiana, Rhus laurina and Arctostaphylos glauca on the south slopes. The flowers are large and deep orange. The plant seems to be (along with the Conejo form) an extreme form of Diplacus longiflorus that is close to Diplacus aurantiacus in appearance Our plants here are planted under oaks in full shade and have done fine for more than 10 years. Larval food plant for the Checkerspot Butterfly. Click here for more about Monkeys in California
