Description
(Arctostaphylos wellsii) With gray foliage, red trunk and stems, this species is a very clean and neat 'reserved' plant, and very drought tolerant. Wells' Manzanita grows on sandstone, and sand on hardpan, in San Luis Obispo County. Our mother plant took a very heavy hit here at 0 degrees F. This is another plant that seems adaptable to a wider range of soils than it would seem from its native habitat. This plant would work well as a specimen plant in a naturalistic style garden.
