Description
A manzanita that was named for John Dourley at Rancho Santa Ana by Mike Evans at Tree of Life Nursery. Not a very big manzanita that likes garden conditions and is tolerant of clay. 'John Dourley' seems to survive here. The new growth is reddish bronze, older leaves are muted green. San Marcos says it gets to be 3X6 feet, Theodore Payne says 5-7 wide and 2-3 feet high. I have no idea what they're looking at, ours and the ones at Cal Poly seem to be in slow mode. In two years they are one foot high and one-two foot wide. I'd guess this cultivar likes regular water and garden conditions, something it doesn't get here. Click here for more about California Manzanitas(Arctostaphylos).
